Our
Projects
Soulful Seeds operates a range of special projects that allow the team to advance the mission and strategic plan of the organization.
Soulful Seniors
Soulful Seniors is a program piloted in the summer of 2024 to build social connection and resilience among seniors. The program offers a variety of activities, including group gardening tasks, learning about different crops, sharing cooking tips, and exploring hives and newly planted trees. It aims to enhance gardening skills and foster a sense of community among participants. The program provides all necessary amenities, such as gardening tools, water, and comfortable seating, ensuring a welcoming environment for seniors to connect with nature and each other. Seniors can participate by dropping in on Mondays at 8:30am at our garden on the Our Place Campus.
Urban Orchard Project
With support from the USDA, Soulful Seeds is setting out to plant 100 fruiting trees per year from 2024- 2028 in neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by food insecurity and climate change. The orchards will help to combat the effect of heat islands while the produce and related maintenance allow us to advance our mission.
Arborist Apprenticeship
The Arborist Apprenticeship Program at Soulful Seeds was established in 2024 through funding from the USDA Division of Urban Forestry. Each year, we host two arborist apprentices who receive a livable wage, full benefits, and coverage for all education costs. This two-year program is certified by the Nevada Apprenticeship Council and is designed to provide comprehensive training in arboriculture. Apprenticeship slots are reserved for individuals living near one of our gardens or orchards. Interested candidates can find the job description on our homepage or email hello@soulfulseedsnevada.org for more information.
